JEAN-CHRISTOPHE RUFIN, GUEST OF HONOUR

Doctor, diplomat, writer, academician, awarded the Goncourt Literary Prize, ambassador... Jean-Christophe Rufin will be the guest of honour of this anniversary edition.

A doctor involved in humanitarian action, Jean-Christophe Rufin has held several positions of responsibility abroad, such as French ambassador to Senegal.

Nourished by his international experience and focused on the encounter of civilizations, his literary work is divided into two streams. With L’Abyssinian, his first novel published in 1997, Rouge Brésil, rewarded by the Goncourt Prize in 2001, or Le grand Cœur, which met a very large audience, he explores a historical vein, always related to current issues.

With Globalia, Le parfum d’Adam, Katiba, Immortelle randonnée (on the paths of Compostelle) and Check-point, Jean-Christophe Rufin creates contemporary novels that shed light on the evolution of our world. Jean-Christophe Rufin’s lively writing, full of suspense and humour, has seduced a wide audience both in France and in the many countries where his books are translated. He was elected to the “Académie française” in 2008.

If he is known for his atypical career and his many lives, it is under a new cap that we have the pleasure of welcoming him to Clermont-Ferrand: as a travel sketchbook creator !

Indeed, if he is present from November 15 to 17 at the “Rendez-vous du Carnet de Voyage” to discuss his literary work and his career, it is also and especially to present to the public his unpublished travel sketchbooks.

On the program:

  • exhibition of his travel sketchbooks,
  • meetings around his works and travels,
  • signing sessions.
